The caduceus symbolises the medical professional. The rays are the grace and blessing of God, received by those who care for the sick. The open hands are the community in need, to whom that same grace is carried forward.
Life in its abundance
Assisi Atonement Hospital, Perumpuzha, Kollam, has served this community since 1968. What began as a modest dispensary — one visiting doctor and two nursing assistants — was officially inaugurated by the then Transport Minister, Mr. R. Balakrishna Pillai, on 11 November 1969. Today it is a 100-bedded specialty hospital with a standing as one of the best in the district across every field of health care.
The hospital has been registered under the Travancore–Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955, since 1 November 1989, and its management and control are vested in the Governing Body. It is run by the Trivandrum Province of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Imitation of Christ, which brought to the healing ministry of Christ a holistic approach: to relieve suffering, to promote and preserve the health of the community, and to give selfless, dedicated service in the true spirit of Jesus Christ.
The hospital is NABH Entry Level Certified, and works to the standards of patient safety and quality that certification requires.
Our casualty runs 24 hours a day, backed by a dual-slice CT scanner and consultants across twenty specialties.
We are empanelled with MEDI-SEP, CGHS and ECHS, and with most major health insurers and third-party administrators, so that treatment here is within reach of government employees, ex-servicemen and insured families alike.
Life in its abundance
Our motto
Vision
To care, foster, nurture and promote life in its fullness, to fulfil true Christian values with love and harmony.
Mission
To uplift persons towards a better quality of life.
The Congregation of the Sisters of the Imitation of Christ was founded by His Grace the Servant of God Mar Ivanios in 1925, in the Jacobite Church “Sanyasam” — the idea of a dedicated religious life for women was unknown in the Malankara Church until then. With the Founder, the whole Congregation — the ten members of the community — re-united with the Catholic Church in 1930.
Bethany, an active Congregation, lays emphasis on liturgical life as a life of prayer and contemplation. The spiritual upliftment of the Malankara Catholic Church is the primary objective of the Congregation, which was given pontifical status in 1956.
Since the re-union the Congregation has grown rapidly. There are five provinces — Trivandrum, Tiruvalla, Bathery, Pathanamthitta and Muvattupuzha — under one Mother General. The Sisters work in India and abroad, and the Generalate is in Kottayam.
